Thais “welcome” the coup | 20.09.06
So sayeth the Central Bank chief Pridiyathorn Devakula in explaining why this coup d’etat will do no harm whatsever to Thailand’s investment climate. He’s absolutely right. Nobody I know has expressed any sentiments against the putsch. Oh no, not us. Since the Climate of Fear and Intimidation™ is now gone, there are no more shouting matches, no more protests on the streets, and no more media screaming about being silenced, only a soothing consensus in favor of whatever the big boys say. If this isn’t democracy, I don’t know what is.
Gee, why didn’t we do this long ago?
update Why, yes, for almost a year now, certain quarters have been spreading rumors about a military coup. Or, as we say in Thai, pointing out the hole for the squirel. Now that all the goading has paid off, credit where credit is due.
