New Foreign Minister | 3.10.06
Barring a last-minute intrigue, the NGO and “academic” crowds, to whom the Coup Gods have so far been so obliging, ain’t gonna like this appointment.
I, too, am disappointed. Whatever happened to Kraisak Choonhavan, the former chairman of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee whose name was deliberately “leaked” and hyped by the aforementioned operators and their allies in the media? Gullible farangs (whom you may know as “journalists” or “experts”) saw Thaksin as a Thai Hugo Chavez in the early days of his government. With Kraisak as foreign minister, they’d get… well, not exactly Chavez, who for good or ill has the trappings of a leader. Kraisak can’t pull off the Venezuelan president’s stunt at the UN to save his life, but he can clap real hard.
Better still, the Coup Gods’ blessing for this ne’er-do-well, estranged son of former Prime Minister Chatichai Choonhavan, would deliver the ultimate Oedipal blow against the ghost of his father, who was deposed by the last military coup fifteen years ago.
Oh well. Perhaps next one, then.
