First post on Thaivisa.com | 5.03.05

It’s been a slow blogging week, which is awful, particularly since I’ve been blogging for only about a week.

The problem is, I don’t really want to talk about the things that I want to talk about.

I’ve always taken it upon myself to debunk myths, correct inaccuracies, clear up misunderstandings, challenge illogic, and expose quackeries. That’s what I like to do and what prompted me to start blogging in the first place.

Still when you think about it — or, better yet, actually do it — this pursuit is simply the intellectual equivalent of cleaning public bathrooms. It’s filthy and distasteful. I have more tasteful things to do with my time, I’d hate it for the filth to rub off my site, and, worst of all, there’s just too much filth out there.

That’s the dilemma afflicting me when I set out this evening to write about a Bangkok Post article but just couldn’t. At least not today. Too much to clean.

My thoughts drifted toward my old blog, which was killed precisely by this sort of fatigue. Then I thought of an old correspondent from that blog, whose on-line haunt I remember is Thaivisa.com.

The next thing I knew, I was on this thread, all fired up, scrubbing away.

So there, the story of my first post on Thaivisa.com.

No need to get all worked up about the doom and gloom predictions of lefty academics or journalists. No matter how well things might be going in reality they will always find a reason to complain. As the wife would say “jai yen-yen”. So relax, turn on the aircon, and think happy thoughts.

Good luck with the new blog. We’re glad to know you’re back!

From Tom: Then I thought of an old correspondent from that blog, whose on-line haunt I remember is Thaivisa.com.

Your old correspondent quit that site a long time ago. I could not make myself understood, and failed to understand what others were saying to me. Maybe I am just too thick — or maybe their English was not good enough.

As for the one-liners you met there…precisely. Hardly worth the effort, is it?
